Route from Tyler to Houston – RITA

September 25th, 2005 · No Comments

If you are in North Eastern part of Texas and trying to get back to Housotn, I hope you will find my blog. We left Tyler this morning at 6 a.m. (Sorry Rick Perry, I know this was not our day to travel, but our gut feeling told us to get out.) It took us a little over 4 hrs to get back to League City. We missed all the Trinity river problems. Here is the route from Tyler.

Take 69 to Alto.
In Alot, turn right onto SH21 to Weches.
In Weches turn left onto FM227 to Ratcliff.
In Ratcliff, turn right onto SH7 to Kennard
In Kennard turn left onto FM357. FM357 will turn into FM233 whcih will turn into FM358. Then turn right onto SH94.
In Groveton, take FM355 south. Then turn left onto FM356.
In Onalaska, turn right onto US190.
In Pointblank, turn left onto SH156 to Coldspring.
In Coldspring, take 150 West.
Then turn left onto FM2025.
This will take you to Cleveland, US59.
From Cleveland, which had no power, we took 105/321 > stay on 321 > to Dayton.
From Dayton take SH146 down to this area. In Dayton, we could not go under the railroad track so we had to go around to get to 146.

We found NO GAS. Most places either did not have any GAS or they had no electricity. Well most cities we went through did not have electricity. So leave full tank, as we did, or bring a gas can full of gas with you. Don’t count on any gas.

Now, if you do above, You will MISS Trinity River bridge on US 59. I think you can make good time.

It was hot today. But we did not run A/C to save gas. I think we can streatch a mile per galon or so without A/C..

Good luck to you all.
