Here is my west Texas hill work out. It is only 5km (3miles) long and elevation change is only 2600-2900. (Coming down on my road bike, I clocked 60mph – almost 100km. it was a gusty tail wind day.)

My wife’s grandmother lives in Post, Texas. (So does her aunt, uncle, cousins, etc.) So I get to go to this little town, just south of Lubbock, quite often. Every time I go there, I try to bring my bike for my west Texas hill workout.
Post is located at the base of Caprock. The best workout is on Hwy380, Tahoka hwy. This time, I took my mt. bike instead of my road bike.
First day, it rained and rained. So I did not ride. The second day, I found a moment not raining. So I got out there. I want to prove to myself that I can still do this hill, as I am turning 40 in a few days. Sure, no problem. It was shorter than what I remembered. That was nice. So I went up and down twice. On the way down during my second ride, it started to rain hard. So I went back. It turned out to be just 30 min. ride that day.
One thing you have to remember riding out in west Texas is to watch out for the rattle snake. I forgot about this fact, until I was making my first down hill. I was coming down at at least 40 mph. I saw a coiled snake on my right on the shoulder. I did not swerve. I was more afraid of getting a major road rash. Second time coming down, he was gone!
Hey, this beats my hill workout in Houston, Kemah Bridge.
