Pho Vnh Xuan

November 24th, 2004 · No Comments

I just got back from this restaurant. It was suggested by my friends MM and TB. I had my usual, a glass of water, spring rolls and pho – #13 – Pho Tai, Nam, Gau, Gan Sach. I was wondering what is the difference between that and #21 – Pho Nam, Gau, Gan Sach. Anyone know?

Well, anyway, let’s talk about the food.
- Spring Roll –
It had some mint inside. The mint was overwhelming the taste. I guess a suttle hint of mint would be a nice compliment to the roll. But when it competes with others or overwhelms it, that BAD! BAD BALANCE!

However, the peanut sauce was less sweet than most Pho Restaurant I have visited. It was a nice change.

- Pho -
The soup was less salty than what i was used to. BUT that means other flavors are brought up even more. The saltiness is not covering up the unwated taste.

Unlike Pho Hoang, the tendon is thinly sliced – like other pho places. Tripe was nice also. The noodle was average.

As for condiments, they include cilantro. As I stated before, I like that. Othere than that, it is normal, basil, bean sprauts, jalopino, and lime.

- atmosphere –

It was little after 4 when I got there. There were about 10 customers in the restaurant. And majority of the customers were Asian. I like this, not from the race point, but because it is often the indication of more authentic taste. Unfortunately, I have never traveled to Vietnam. I have been to other South Eastern Asian countries, but not there. So I really don’t know the authentic taste.
